Parts shapes or features that are not in die draw may require an additional pull direction created by some type of action (slide, lifter, etc.). This action is typically automated, however, on some low volume prototype molds this can be a manual (hand pull) operation.
There are important things to consider when making the choice as they both have their advantages and disadvantages as illustrated below.
Parting Line: The split line of a part between cavity and core mold steel.
Die Draw: The perpendicular direction of mold separation/parting line.
